Racing

The Snow-Cats stage an annual Ski Race Championship on our January holiday – a legacy that started in Kirchberg, Austria, in 1971 and has run every year since, with the exception of 2021 due to COVID. There are trophies and prizes for all standards, beginners through to experts.

Fun for everyone

The Snow-Cats races are run in conjunction with the national ski federations of the various countries we visit so are accurately calibrated to the host nations race handicap system, ensuring members a consistent platform upon which they can see their own progression each year.

Competitors achieve a ‘handicap grading’ from their race results which assists in forming ski groups of well matched ability levels. Please see the ‘Snowstar Rankings’ page to view our members handicap gradings.

Please find below links to the last three seasons’ Snow-Cats Open Championship race results as well as the Snow-Cats Trophy History database which lists every single trophy winner from all our trophy categories right back to the first Snow-Cats race in Kirchberg, Austria, in 1971!

Ranking

The Snowstar Ranking represents a Snow-Cats skier’s present position within the Snow-Cats membership, by taking the best race result from the current and previous season. The ranking list is a useful tool that helps Snow-Cats match their skiing abilities to other members to ensure well matched skiers within each ski group. It also functions as a “ladder” and challenges skiers to see if they can climb a little higher each year. It’s a tough ask, and a 2 – 3% improvement in one year represents a very considerable achievement! A handicap is applied based on the percentage achieved by each skier above the Snowstar Base Time.

For example; if the Snow-Cats Base Time was 60 seconds, a racer posting a time of 66 seconds would be given a handicap of 10% (i.e. they were 10% slower than the base time).

NB: A number of Snow-Cat members do not feature in the rankings list. This may be because they are newcomers to the club this season and have not completed a race, or that they last entered a race more than two seasons ago so their results are not currently valid. Holders of the Snow-Kitten award do not qualify for this ranking.
