Tignes - January 2022

January 16th – 23rd 2022

The SNOW-CATS make a welcome return to Tignes, France, this season after a year off. Tignes was the venue for the clubs 50th Anniversary celebration holiday in 2017 where over 100 Snowcats assembled to enjoy one of the best weeks the club has ever had. Come with us to Tignes once again to repeat the fun!

The pretty alpine resort of Tignes is one of the best loved French skiing destinations and is the convivial warm heart of the legendary ‘Espace Killy’ ski area which fully deserves ranking among the world’s elite ski areas.

Tignes, France

With fantastic snow cover year on year, an impressive terrain, glacier skiing on the Grand Motte plus it shares the huge ski area with neighbouring Val d’Isère, Tignes is one of the most dependable ski areas in France.

Made up of 5 villages varying in altitudes, what Tignes lacks in charm due to it’s appearance it certainly compensates by the superb ski area, amenities and entertainment. It is hugely practical for the pistes, has the best snow and can be lively.

Le Lac has many restaurants, bars and shops. On the slopes there’s easy access to the lower resorts in Tignes.

The name of the oldest skiing region of the Savoie Alps says it all. Named after Jean Claude Killy, the triple downhill Olympic winner of Grenoble in 1968, the Espace Killy ski area encompasses three mountains and two valleys, and joins the two regions Val d‘Isère and Tignes. Two of the most distinct mountains of the Vanoise-Massive, Mont.

Pourri (3779 m) in the North and the Grande Motte (3656 m) in the South form the tips of a skiing region that blends into wide, gentle slopes towards the valley. With 159 runs totaling some 300 km of pistes, the terrain range for skiers is generous, offering variety for every ability level from steady intermediate to expert.

Thanks to the numerous blue and red slopes, the Espace Killy is the ideal destination for beginners and intermediates. Our more advanced skiers can enjoy the extensive off- piste terrain, glacier slopes on the Grande Motte, and runs through the woods to Val d’Isere and the villages below Tignes. There’s also the world famous Rocher de Bellevarde run in Val d ́Isère, a tamed version of the men’s Olympic downhill track. The area is also famous for its mogul runs at Solaise and the ski canyon stretching into the stunning Gorges de Malpasset. Put simply, the Espace Killy has extensive terrain and variety for all ability levels.

THE SNOW-CATS 51st ANNUAL CHAMPIONSHIP

The 51st Snowcats Annual Open Championship Race (Flèche) will take place during the week. There are prizes for all standards, beginners through experts with a prize-giving in the Chalet / Hotel in the evening.

If you don’t want to race, no problem. We’ll have warming drinks for those who just want to support the racers. It’s a great atmosphere.
