Ischgl - December 2019

December 14th – 21st 2019
The Snowcats venture to Ischgl for the first time this December for our season opener where we stay at the recently built (2010) Chalet Hotel Abendrot with Inghams/Ski Total.
Ischgl, Austria
High in the Paznaun valley in the heart of the stunning Silvretta mountains, the fashionable alpine village of Ischgl presents some of the best skiing in Austria. A modern, efficient high- altitude lift system and beautiful scenery make Ischgl a true paradise for skiers.
Renowned for its superb après ski, Ischgl is a lively and compact village with a wide choice of bars and nightspots. Galtür is a pretty and unspoilt little village with its own 40km ski area, linked to neighboring Ischgl by a frequent bus service, free with the area lift pass.
Most of the skiing takes place well over 2000m on a large network of wide pistes making Ischgl one of the best areas in the Alps. A high tree line is also extremely useful should visibility be impeded due to poor weather.
For intermediates, there are some great cruisey runs by Visnitzkopf and the two new lifts in the Palinkopf sector (particularly the Gampenbahn) have improved access to some of the finest long intermediate runs in the resort. A ‘must try’ run is the long, winding ‘Duty Free Run’ down into Samnaun which takes you through a wild valley into Switzerland.
For Advanced/Expert skiers, the best off piste terrain can be found off the Piz Val Gronda cable car and near the Höllspitze chair. If you’re looking for steep groomed runs, head to the Greitspitze where laps of steep corduroy are made much more pleasant by the heated leather seats on the feed chairlift. Away from the ski area are some fantastic ski touring options.
Lift Passes
The Silvretta area lift pass gives access to Ischgl and Galtür (a 20-minute free ski bus away), 330 km of pistes, amazing off-piste and some of the best piste skiing in the Alps. You can ski 2 countries in one day, with some great runs down into Samnaun in Switzerland.
Apres & Non Skiing Activities
Ischgl has some of the best après ski in the Alps. There are a wide range of bars and nightclubs as well as special events throughout the season. The Trofan Alms has been named the #1 Aprés ski bar in the world on several occasions and its neighbour, The Schatzi Bar, is famous for its bar top dancers in their own very ‘short’ version of the traditional Dirndl!
Other activities include:
- 50km Winter Walks
- Snowshoeing & Sleigh rides
- Leisure centre with indoor pool, steam baths & sauna
- Floodlit Tobogganing (7km)
- Ice skating & Curling
- Bowling & Indoor tennis

Chalet Hotel Abendrot
The Chalet Hotel Abendrot, built in 2010, is ideally situated between two of the main ski lifts; the Silvrettabahn and the Fimbabahn (both under 400metres). There is an indoor ‘travellator’ for Fimbabahn that moves skiers for approx half the distance.
At the end of the ski day a cruisy red run, imaginatively named No 1, brings you to within 50m of the Chalet Hotel Abendrot. The bedrooms all offer an Austrian twin bed, flat screen TV, en suite shower or bath and wc and most also have either a balcony or a terrace.

The Abendrot
The Chalet Abendrot has been built specifically for Ski Total guests and has it all, from a modern and stylish interior to a location that is hard to better anywhere in the Alps, all combined with a warm and professional welcome from the Abendrot hotel team!

Food at Chalet Hotel Abendrot
Wholesome breakfast buffet, with fruit juices, cereals, breads, pastries, fruits, yoghurt, a full cooked breakfast and freshly brewed teas and coffees.
Afternoon Tea to welcome us from the slopes, including soup, cakes, bread and jams, tea, coffee, and hot chocolate.

Ski Groups
Skiing in groups of about 5-8 people is an important aspect of Snowcat club skiing. We offer multiple groups of like-ability skiers to suit most standards, so providing your ability level is intermediate (see below note) through to expert, we can offer a well-matched group for you.
